The rider from Barcelona, who is currently competing at the FIM CEV Repsol, got on a motorcycle for the first time when he was 13 –his parents would not allow him before– and only four years later, he already made his debut in the Moto3 World Championship as a wild card.

In the professional motorcycling world, most riders got on a bike for the first time at 5, 4 or even 3 years old, but that is not Gabriel Rodrigo’s case. This rider from Barcelona had to insist again and again to his parents, who did not like the idea of him getting on a motorcycle. And only when he was 13 he finally had his way. His parents accepted letting him compete, under the condition that he was not to ride a motorcycle away from the circuits. An agreement that, up to know, their son has respected.

But despite starting at 13, Gabriel Rodrigo is taking huge strikes in his learning process, thanks to a great deal of hope and effort. After participating in the Mediterranean Road Racing Championship in 2010 and 2011, the next year he made his debut in the FIM CEV Repsol. A championship that allowed him to progressively grow as a rider; Gabriel moved from fighting to be able to finish a race in 2012 to fighting for the podium in 2014.

This season’s results have led him, with his current Team Manager, Aleix Espargaro, to participate as a wild card in the Moto3 World Championship for the Spain and Catalunya Grand Prix. Two chances that ended with a crash in Jerez and with a 22nd final position in Barcelona.

The next challenge for Gabriel Rodrigo will be the FIM CEV Repsol round that will be held next weekend in Albacete. There, the young rider will attempt to write another page of a story that started later than for others, but that was not a hindrance to catch them.
