“Marc Márquez opens the season on the podium”
The reigning MotoGP World Champion finishes in second place at the Qatar GP, just 27 thousandths of a second behind the race winner after a battle until the last corner. Dani Pedrosa was seventh, less than five seconds behind the winner.
Off the start line, Marc Márquez and Dani Pedrosa were in second and third, respectively, behind Johann Zarco.
Pedrosa lost ground on the first few laps and dropped down to eighth, but managed to stay with the first group until the final laps, when Dovizioso stretched out the pack.
Marc Márquez rode the entire race between second and third, and tried to take the lead on the last corner, but he ran wide and Dovizioso recovered the position to take the victory by just 27 thousandths of a second.
This is the sixth podium for Marc Márquez in Qatar, where he has been on the rostrum once in 125cc, once in Moto2 and four times in MotoGP.
“It was a great race and a great show. The thing I’m most happy about is that, this time, we were able to stay with him on the straight and this is very good.”
“In general, the bike worked well enough and I’m happy because we were able to improve our feeling over the weekend.”
